Dutch language test B2+

If you want to work as a doctor or a dentist in the Netherlands, it is necessary to be registered in the BIG register. Since January 1st, 2017, demonstrating language proficiency has become a mandatory requirement for BIG registration. To obtain this certification, you must successfully complete the Dutch language test B2+ level.

It's important to keep in mind:

  • There are four different components in total, and passing all of them is mandatory.
  • Insufficient language proficiency automatically results in a failed component.
  • You are allowed to use an NT2 pocket dictionary.

Test A: Reading and Writing

For the B2+ Reading and Writing test, you will read a medical text of 800-1000 words. You will receive the text on paper. After that you will write down the topic of the text on a laptop in no more than 100 words. Use your own words. You may not copy any parts of the text verbatim.

For this exam, you may use the Pocket Woordenboek NT2. This dictionary will be provided by Care Force on the day of the test.

You will have 90 minutes to complete this test.
 

The assessment criteria:

- Grammar: good command of various grammatical structures

- Vocabulary: appropriate use of words and variation in word choice

- Writing skills: the essence is presented clearly and concisely, the information is relevant (distinguishing between main and secondary issues)

- Text structure: there is a clear coherence in the text through the use of structural words

- Spelling and punctuation

 

Test B: Listening, Speaking and Writing

For the Listening and Speaking B2+ test, you will be required to conduct a patient interview with a patient (actor) based on a case study. You will first have 15 minutes of preparation time to study the case and prepare for the interview. Then you will conduct the interview with the actor. This interview will last 10-15 minutes.

After this interview, you will continue with the Writing B2+ test. This test consists of writing a patient report. Based on the interview, you will write a report of 200 to a maximum of 250 words on a laptop.

Use your own words: do not copy parts of the case study. Write in complete sentences, not keywords.

You may use the Pocket Woordenboek NT2 for this exam. This dictionary will be provided by Care Force on the day of the test.

You will have 30 minutes for this writing test.

 

The assessment criteria for the interview:

- Adequacy: the content is clear and relevant, responses to the patient are adequate

- Grammar: good command of varied grammatical structures

- Vocabulary: appropriate word use and variety in word choice

- Conversational skills: clear and concise formulation (no jargon), coherent text through the use of signaling and connecting words

- Pronunciation: good intelligibility

 

The assessment criteria for the report:

- Grammar: good command of varied grammatical structures

- Vocabulary: appropriate word use and variety in word choice

- Writing skills: the content is clear and concisely formulated, the information is a concise representation of the interview

- Text structure: there is clear coherence in the text through the use of structural words

- Spelling and punctuation
